Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information MovieCravings collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it plain — no legalese walls.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly — your name and email address when you create an account, and any films you save to your favorites list. We also collect information automatically when you use the service: pages visited, emotion filters selected, search queries, browser type, device type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We do not collect payment information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: operate and improve the MovieCravings platform; personalise your experience and power your saved favorites shelf; send transactional emails such as account confirmations and password resets; understand how people navigate the site so we can improve the emotional indexing and recommendation quality; and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
MovieCravings uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API to source movie metadata, posters, and keyword data. When you browse films, requests are made to our servers which in turn query TMDB — your personal data is not shared with TMDB. We may use analytics tools to understand aggregate usage patterns. Any third-party services we use are contractually required to handle data in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information and saved favorites for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes. Anonymised, aggregated usage data may be retained indefinitely.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to or restrict certain processing; and receive a portable copy of your data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the About page. We will respond within 30 days. If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information — passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text, connections are encrypted via HTTPS, and access to production systems is restricted. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your MovieCravings account.
8. Children's Privacy
MovieCravings is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you by email or by placing a notice on the site. Continued use of MovieCravings after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
